On March 15, 2020, James followed Devin on Twitter. Even though he was in Chesterfield and she was in Florida, they quickly realized that they knew some of the same people and were from the same town (he went to Meadowbrook and she went to Manchester, small world!) Devin liked a couple of his pictures, shortly after, James messaged her. The next day, Devin had a 3 hour layover on her way to training from FL to NC, she asked him if he wanted to facetime during this layover even though they had JUST “met” yesterday...they talked the entire time. This was right when Covid started, so James's work switched to being 100% remote, and Devin's training got cancelled the first day. She was able to stay in the barracks and talk to him for the next 2 days from sunup to sundown. In May, just 2 months later, James caught his first flight down to Orlando, FL, where they would lay eyes on each other (in person) for the first time. Flights were cheap because of Covid, so each month after that, they would alternate flying to and from their cities to spend a week with each other, until he moved to FL with her in September, 2020, where she would get last minute orders, just 20 DAYS later, and left for training in California for 2 months, while he moved back to Richmond. As soon as Devin got orders to DC, they began apartment hunting together, and the rest was history!
