There's an acclaimed New York Actor by the name of Geoffrey Cantor (who you'll know soon enough because he's marrying us), and in December of 2009 he staged as his directorial debut, at a charming little theatre in the far reaches of Red Hook, a joint production of companion one-acts - "Lone Star" and "Laundry and Bourbon." As luck (or fate, depending on your predilection) would have it, cast to play the wedded Amy Lee and Cletis T. Fullernoy were none other than yours truly. Now, a little context - the nature of these two pieces is such that the men inhabit one, the women the other; so, though our characters were technically married, they never actually shared the stage (nor the rehearsal hall), which is to say that a budding offstage romance was far from a foregone conclusion. Fast-forward one cheeky meet cute and a few long walks to the F train, and we find ourselves at opening night - whereupon a well-played poem, a generous pour of Jameson and an integral snap-front flannel render the rest proverbial history.
