Like any good love story, Alyssa and Justin’s journey began with an ode to modernity: a dating app. What the two didn’t expect at the time, is that one swipe would lead to a beautiful trip across miles, sports rivalries, and time, ultimately leading to their wedding day. Rewind back to 2020, and Alyssa and Justin find themselves back in Houston on what some may globally call “an elongated Spring Break”. A first date ensued with a picnic in the park, except Justin didn’t have a blanket, nor a basket, nor a plan. But hey, it all worked out! An Alabama student and a Notre Dame student? Your guess is as good as theirs. But, they took a chance on each other and found love absorbed in the simplicity of walking life hand in hand. Also, like any good love story, they were met with “challenges” - not in the dramatic sense, but rather a string of occurrences such as Justin’s beloved Notre Dame meeting their fate at the hands of the Crimson Tide at the Rose Bowl, only six months into their relationship. Other examples include ten-hour trips across America between Tuscaloosa and South Bend; learning how to balance a long distance with graduation and new jobs; and even how to hit play on a film at the ~exact same time~ so that they could watch together from afar. Their love has crossed many states, traveled overseas, and was shockingly NOT tested by an impromptu red-eye drive across the Autobahn. And yet, like any good love story, their journeys eventually coincided and they moved in together. Joined by their (combined) four cats, Alyssa and Justin’s first house together began a two-year saunter around Galveston Island where Justin began medical school in 2024 - and ALSO the location of their second date several years prior. Galveston became their first home, the site of their engagement where Justin was famously “lost for words” for the first time in his life, and a place they will hold dearly in their hearts for years to come. But, their story doesn’t simply end here. Most of all, like any good love story, they have made the agreement to soon uphold the ultimate oath. As Alyssa and Justin swiftly approach their vows at the altar, they acknowledge everyone who has impacted their lives along the way and excitedly await the opportunity to celebrate their matrimony. Molded on the foundation of unconditional love and altruism, their ensuing marriage is a testament to the village around them and a stepping stone of a wonderful journey ahead.
