It is one of the oldest businesses on the peninsula. The saloon and its outdoor beer garden are populated by Silicon Valley workers out for a burger and beer at lunch under the trees. After work, the parking lot fills with expensive sports cars and luxury vehicles. On weekends, bicyclists, motorcyclists and occasionally horse riders pull off the road or trail to enjoy the pleasures of the Alpine Inn. We recommend the grilled cheese.
The Stanford Theatre first opened in 1925, and it served for decades as Palo Alto's premier movie house. They show double feature films Friday-Sunday.
3 miles from our house, the Stanford Shopping Center will have any last minute items you may have forgotten. Just across the street is the Arizona Cactus Garden.
The Arizona Garden is a historical garden in the process of renovation and preservation. It is located on the south side of the mausoleum off of Quarry Road between Campus Drive and Arboretum Road. The garden, also known as the Cactus Garden, was designed for Jane and Leland Stanford by landscape architect Rudolf Ulrich between 1881 and 1883. During the early years of the university, the Cactus Garden became the meeting place for many courting Stanford students. This is where we took our engagement pictures.

A favorite local hiking spot. Great views and even a tree swing!
