How We Met

July 2012

Katie and Jason’s love story began in July 2012 when Jason messaged Katie on a dating website called OkCupid.com. That’s right, they met online BEFORE it was cool. They got to chatting online and after a couple of days of chatting, Jason asked her out on a date. The happy couple decided to meet up at Tanforan Mall food court in San Bruno, California. Jason, being old school, recalls having to print out driving directions to Tanforan Mall. During that date, they walked around various stores and talked. As they were walking around they had a chance to take a picture with Toys “R” Us mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe, and managed to get their very first picture together [see first photo of picture gallery :) ]. Jason took Katie to Oyster Point Park in South San Francisco on their third date. That was when Jason asked her to be his girlfriend. After almost 10 years of ups and downs, Jason FINALLY proposed!

The Proposal

February 13, 2022

Katie had told Jason that when he proposed she only had a couple of requirements: it had to be a surprise and it couldn’t be on any holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day etc.). The proposal happened on Super Bowl Sunday, February 13th, 2022. Well, it was the DAY BEFORE Valentine’s Day at least. The LA Rams were playing the Cincinnati Bengals in LA. Katie had to work that day but she was allowed to get off early to watch the kickoff. Jason hoped a big car would be parked in the parking lot where she worked so he could hide. It’s 3:30 pm that day and Katie clocks out of work and starts to head to the car where Jason is. She sees that he is wearing his nice pants and a nice shirt and she thinks, “Huh that is weird, he must be wearing that because laundry hasn’t been done.” She also noticed that he was crouching down in front of the car and thought “Oh no he scraped something AGAIN” But when she rounded that big SUV that was next to the car, she saw Jason on one knee on the passenger side of the car. Katie said, “What are you doing? Are you serious?” Jason just smiled at her, at a loss for words. “Well, aren’t you going to ask me something?” Jason finally came to and asked, “Katie Lynne Schikore, will you marry me?” “Of course, I will!” Katie exclaimed. He slid the ring on her finger (after asking which one it goes on) and became fiancés in the CVS San Ramon parking lot. After the excitement of just getting proposed to, Jason tells Katie that he hasn’t gone grocery shopping. Not the thing you want to hear after the best moment of your life. Katie wanted to start calling friends and family and tell them the good news but they had to go to the grocery store. Jason was so preoccupied with planning the proposal that he forgot to grocery shop. So after grocery shopping, they FaceTimed Katie’s parents, and since it was the Super Bowl they had people over watching the game. They told them their news and everyone there was thrilled. Jason and Katie had planned on having dinner with Jason’s parents that night and Granny is on the way to his parent's house. They told Granny on the way and she was ecstatic. Then finally, with a bottle of champagne in Katie’s hand, they both told Jason’s parents the wonderful news. We can’t wait for this exciting new chapter to begin!
