How We Met

First comes school, then comes marriage

Jimmy and Rachel had gone to school together since the 4th grade but their paths didn't start to cross until junior year of high school. They finally had their first class together after 8 years and it was Sociology. Rachel admits that she pretended to need help on homework as a way to talk to Jimmy. Little did she know he was waiting until class started to do the homework. Fast forward to fall of senior year where they began dating! They spent the year cheering each other on at Volleyball and Basketball games, going to football games, after game dinners at Bdubs. Senior year they were both in the Western Civilization class together and for one of the assignments they had to pair up boy/girl. The lesson had to do with the guys asking for permission to marry back in the West Civilization years. Out of everyone in the class Jimmy was selected to explain to the teacher why he should let him marry "his daughter" Rachel. Neither one of us would have imagined at that time that 10 years later we'd be getting married. Jimmy asked Rachel to prom in typical Rachel fashion with a High School Musical sign and a J for Jimmy necklace. After graduation they both went to Kent State where they learned, explored, and grew together and as individuals. Jimmy dove into the Insurance world and has been with Allstate for 5 years. Rachels creativity led her to Interior Design and she has been with DVA Architecture for 5 years. Hit them up for all your home insurance and design needs! They are so thankful to have been by each others sides during so many milestones and to witness each other grow into the people they are today.

The Engagement

Sending Love from Hawaii

The Schank Family took a trip to Honolulu Hawaii during the summer of 2024. Jimmy pulled off the ultimate surprise to make the vacation unforgettable. Jimmy designed Rachel's engagement ring to match a photo she shared with him years earlier. The ring arrived the day before they left for the trip so thankfully he was able to carry out his proposal plan. Jimmy shared the news with Rachels dad once they arrived in Seattle which was the midpoint stop on the journey to Hawaii. Nick and Morgan (Rachels brother and sister in law) live in Seattle so they had a crash course of all the fun Seattle things. Once they arrived at the hotel in Hawaii everyone left their bags at the front desk. Jimmy chose to keep his backpack which Rachel thought was odd since it was filled with airport snacks. Little did she know that Jimmy snuck in an extra pair of tennis shoes with the ring box stuffed in the toe. One the 3rd day of the trip Nick and Morgan had planned a hike for everyone to do up Koko Head which led to beautiful views of Koko Head Crater. They all had to wake up at 3:30 AM in order to make it in time for the sunrise. Cindy (Rachels mom), Nick and Morgan were looped into the proposal once the group arrived in Hawaii. Rachel and her sister Ally had no idea what was going to happen once they got to the top of the mountain. If you haven't seen the photos yet please google Koko Head Trail so you can see the pathway up the mountain. Since they started before sunrise it was pitch black out. They had head lamps on and could see a little speck of a light at the top of what they were climbing. All of the steps they climbed were railroad tracks in the side of the mountain from an abandoned tramway from World War II. There is a portion about halfway up that does not have any ground beneath it. Most of our group decided to go off the path on a nearby bypass to avoid needing to be rescued by a helicopter. Did I mention how steep and oddly spaced apart the steps were so we basically did 1,000+ lunges up the mountain. Unfortunately Rachel got sick the day they arrived in Hawaii which added another level of difficulty to the hike. Jimmy kept saying "it's going to be so worth it once we get to the top" and oh was he right! About 3/4 of the way up there was a guy throwing up off the side and the girl that was with his said that she was good with this view and didn't need to keep going. Rachel agreed as they passed them but Jimmy pushed her on. Once they got to the top the views were absolutely amazing. Surrounded by her family and strangers Jimmy knelt and proposed to Rachel. She was shocked and managed to get the words out Yes!! and I'm so sweaty! That moment overlooking Hawaii with each other felt so surreal and will forever be one of their favorite memories. Facetimes were made to their families and friends at the top of Hawaii to share the good news. With the extra rush of excitement they had to make it back down the mountain. The ring went back in the box in Rachels dads backpack for safe keeping. By the time they made it back to the bottom they had been lapped 4 times by a local man who does the hike daily. We had an amazing dinner and dessert followed by many cheers. They rounded the trip out with a visit to Pearl Harbor, snorkeling, family photos, cornhole and pool volleyball tournaments, pina coladas and great food. Jimmy's sisters Sam and Leah had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sent to their room. Jimmy's mom Trish was waiting for them at the airport with a She Said Yes sign! So many memories were made and we are so thankful for such an amazing trip and send a big thank you to our families for making it such a special moment for us!
