The First Date

12.26.19

Yes, we met on the internet. After several days of staring at our phones, waiting for the next text, and a few days of family get togethers for the holidays, we decided to top off a busy season by meeting at Teddy's on 65th the day after Christmas for a drink and a round of cribbage. Darren showed up with sushi, chips and guacamole from Whole Foods across the street - it was perfectly unorthadox for a dinner date, and I was delighted. It was also the only hand of cribbage I've ever skunked anyone - that was a good sign. Six weeks later, we signed a lease, immediatly went into lockdown, and the world changed drastically from what we knew. It only took 1 week of quarantine and watching bad 90s movies to know that this was the real thing!

The Proposal

08.11.2020

Four months into our new lockdown lives, we were fortunate enough to road trip to Priest Lake, ID where we got to spend a week camping at the lake with a few members of my family. Darren told nobody about his plans to propose, except for Rowan. She kept that secret for 2 weeks - and not only was excited to give her blessing, but suggested the lake as an ideal backdrop for such an event. After I tried to get no less than 4 people to go on hike with us, as Rowan kept insisting we go alone (ha!), Darren proposed in between the 7th and 8th bridges on the trail at the lake. But wait, there's more. The first go, when Darren had the ring box in the sand where I was supposed to see it, I was talking (so weird, I know) and walked right over it. This prompted quick thinking and a new plan - and I have good news - it all worked out REALLY well. ❤️ - Esther
