Drew and Scarlett met in 2020 at an apartment dog park in Arlington, Virginia. It turned out they both lived at the building, so with routine dog park trips they became friends. Drew was an accountant and Scarlett was a law student, so they rarely asked each other anything but "how is your dog?", and "so, what do you actually do?" Drew asked Scarlett if they could go to a workout class together in the fall of 2021. After Drew brought it up for six weeks, Scarlett finally picked a class and they went two days later. Drew asked Scarlett where he should pick her up as a joke, and Scarlett--already burned out from 2L classes by the end of October--thought he genuinely forgot where she lived. She came around when he opened her car door, whisked her off to dinner after the class, and suggested they find a bottle of wine for her mom. A year and a half, three dogs, and two cats later, Drew successfully coerced Scarlett into believing that he would propose in Italy in March of 2023. He surprised her by proposing two weeks early in their kitchen while they were planning the trip with Pupatella pizza and a bottle of wine. (The ring was clearly burning a hole in his pocket, and somehow Scarlett figured out it was in the house within 24 hours of delivery.)
