In the summer of 2022, Scarlett asked her parents about transitioning from charter school to homeschool. That fall Scarlett and Colton met in their Worldviews CO-OP class. They clicked in an instant; they would study together, Colton would help Scarlett with math, and they would get lunch between their classes every now and then. For a little under a year, they were just really good friends, but in the summer of 2023, Colton made the first move and told Scarlett that he had feelings for her. Scarlett was surprised and confused and told Colton she thought it might be best to just remain friends for the time being. Colton was hurt and when Scarlett saw that her decision put distance between her and her best friend, she was also hurt. So, she sought the wisdom of the Lord and realized her own feelings for Colton. On October 3rd, 2023, they went to a coffee shop to study for their class, and while they were there, they swapped testimonies and got to know one another even better. The next day Colton brought it up again and Scarlett told him she had feelings but wasn't allowed to date until she turned 17. Colton told her he was willing to wait. The next month, they spent eight days together on a school trip to Boston, New York, and Washington D.C. That's where they discussed their expectations for marriage and then Colton posed the question if Scarlett would want to get married at 18. Over a year later, on Scarlett's 18th Birthday, Colton took her to a picnic at Landa Library where he asked her for her hand in marriage, and she said yes!
