How We Met

October 27, 2006

Our story begins with a trip to Greece. In the summer of 2006 Bryan went on a Greek island hopping adventure. As destiny would have it, my roommate at the time booked the same vacation destination. Fast forward to Suzy returning home with many entertaining stories and pictures of the people that she had met. Bryan was mentioned often as a guy she thought I'd absolutely adore. Sure I thought he was cute, but 3,000 miles apart it was unlikely that our paths would ever cross. However, one day I came across Bryan's Myspace profile and decided to send a message. Bryan responded and I was immediately intrigued. Online conversations ensued for weeks allowing us to get to know one another. An instant connection was there. Virtual chats then led to the first phone call. Neither of us wanted to stop talking and a growing relationship developed. We then had a daily tradition of talking on the phone for hours. It wasn't too long before we both knew that we'd fallen for the other, and evening calls to say "goodnight" soon turned into "I love you." Yet, we still had not met face-to-face and so a trip to Los Angeles was in the making. I sat on a cross-country flight en route to meet a boy I knew I loved but had never met. The butterflies I felt were indescribable. Coming down the escalator towards baggage claim, I scanned LAX looking for the guy I had only seen in pictures. Naturally, Bryan had already spotted me as he sorted through his own nerves and excitement. Finally he came over to me and we shared a hug that felt like we'd known each other forever. We began walking to his car when he suddenly stopped, turned to me and nervously said, "I just need to get this out of the way." He gently grabbed my face and with that first kiss all doubt of a long distance relationship working were quickly erased. Our happily ever after continues with a honeymoon in where else, but Greece.

The Proposal

April 27, 2019

She knew the proposal was coming, she just didn't know where or how. After spending the last 13 years with Sarah, surprises are hard to come by. The challenge would be in creating an unexpected moment. I chose an event that we had always wanted to attend - The Lights Fest. I envisioned myself on one knee with thousands of lanterns in the background illuminating the night sky. I checked the event schedule and settled on Tampa, FL. Timing wise this location worked best, but nearby Disney World also provided the perfect distraction. Both of us due for a much needed vacation, we descended upon the Sunshine State. I booked a beautiful resort and our first evening was spent enjoying the sights and attractions of Downtown Disney. The next morning... It was Go Time! The first surprise was the bright red Mustang I had rented for the day. The drive would be a little over an hour away. As the scenery changed from city to rural to wide open fields, Sarah became increasingly confused. About 10 minutes away, it suddenly came to her - The Lights Fest! She was thrilled that we'd finally be attending one of these events. Little did she know how unforgettable the night would really become. As the sun began to set you could feel the crowds anticipation building. At the perfect moment everyone started igniting their personalized sky lanterns and let them take flight. It created a surreal ambiance, where time slowed down and single flames rose to join with thousands of others. The background was breath-taking, but all I could see was her. As Sarah released our lantern I dropped to one knee.
