Hudson has a rich whaling and industrial history- settled by New England seafarers in the 1700s, who were escaping the revolutionary war torn east coast. Hudson was a perfect settlement for a whaling community, positioned on 2 natural harbors along the Hudson River. Today's street signs and business logos typically feature a whale icon to pay tribute to this history. Hudson later evolved into a regional hub for farming, cotton mills, and cement plants.
Through the years, Hudson's various industries have risen and fallen and recent renewal can be credited to a wave of local artists and antique dealers rediscovering the area and opening up shop. Today, Hudson is often referred to as Brooklyn North as the town boasts of many historical buildings, art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and cafes.
