We backed into each other dancing to "Baby Got Back" at our local Virginia-Highlands bar, Dark Horse. Danny was wearing a Budlight windbreaker on a 90's bar crawl with his buddies & Sara was out with her girlfriends after attending a gala. Thanks to a few encouraging friends (& strong bourbon), we've been laughing with & loving each other ever since.
Danny had elaborate plans to propose to Sara that included friends & family flying in from all over the country to celebrate. Little did he know, a global pandemic would force him to adjust his plans multiple times in a matter of weeks. Even with the spread of coronavirus, he knew he didn't want to wait. After getting Sara out of the house for an hour during quarantine, Danny & his family transformed the living room to a romantic picnic complete with photos mirroring our lives leading up to memories from the last few years together -- on farmhouse wooden screens he built. Danny filmed the transformation & proposal using Go-Pros. After proposing, Danny surprised Sara with a photographer to capture the intimate moment at home & Piedmont Park, where we've shared many important conversations & fun times with loved ones. Once we returned from the photoshoot, we enjoyed a picnic dinner in the living room, reminiscent of special moments shared together on the floor in Sara's first place. Underneath an Edison bulb chandelier that Danny made, we ate a meal from our favorite local restaurant, Wrecking Bar, called family & friends, drank champagne & danced in the quiet of our home. The New York Times has a shortened version of our engagement story. (Crazy!) Read: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/12/fashion/weddings/coronavirus-marriage-proposals.html
