In the Fall of 2021, Ryan and Sawyer unexpectedly met in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Sawyer was in town from the Big Apple for one of her bridesmaid's birthday party. Coincidentally, Ryan was enjoying a night out with one of his groomsmen. Lucky for everyone, Ryan and Sawyer were upstairs simultaneously that night and made eye contact on the dance floor. Big shout out to Melissa and Will for bringing them together at Ryan’s Pub that October night. In a corny icebreaker, Ryan asked if Sawyer’s name came from the Mark Twain novel. Sawyer brushed off the comment she’d heard a million times before and the two immediately hit it off. They laughed and danced the night away. At last call, Sawyer made the first move and asked for Ryan’s number, even though, admittedly, she had no plans to use it. Ryan and Sawyer maintained minimal communication over the next six months – as Sawyer puts it, Ryan “ghosted” her (he denies this). Undeterred by their lack of formal communication, Ryan mustered the courage to ask Sawyer to the Barristers Ball, a law school dance. Sawyer, despite some reservations, said yes! And the rest is history. Their relationship grew over the next few years as they faced challenges together and navigated seeing each other long-distance. Eventually, they moved in together and brought Miss Lilly Hagrid Crowley home. This past summer, Ryan and Sawyer got engaged on Martha’s Vineyard, her favorite place. It was a day filled with surprise, love and joy, creating a memory they will never forget.
