We met in November of 2018, but our story actually began in 2016 when I started attending Beckwith Missionary Baptist, we just didn't know it. Beckwith was where I met the Powell's, Sawyers family. Miss. Barbara, aka Nanny began working on me, always mentioning her great-grandson Sawyer. In the meantime, Judy, aka Granny was doing the same to Sawyer. Finally, after two years Sawyer added me on Facebook and after a few months he worked up the nerve to message me. He came to Knoxville a few days later to meet in person. We didn't become "official" until the next week when I forced him to ask, but we knew this was it before we even met. I'll never be able to explain it, but I had known in my heart for years, ever since I had first seen his picture in Nanny's hallway.
On Thursday evening Sawyer announced we were going on a surprise trip to Gatlinburg for the weekend, as to make up for the graduation cruise that was canceled and to celebrate a year and a half of dating. We had a great time exploring and playing around Friday and Saturday, but when it was time to go to dinner on Saturday, Sawyer decided he had another surprise. A very secret restaurant, one that I needed to wear a blindfold to. I was highly suspicious, especially because I could tell we were driving up a mountain. Still blindfolded, we climbed up the steps and I knew we were at our cabin. I could hear my favorite song playing. Finally, I was allowed to take off the blindfold, there were candles and roses everywhere. He led me out to the porch where there were pictures of our year and a half together displayed. I turned around and he was doing what I had been waiting for since the day I met him, getting on one knee. I honestly am not sure what he said, because I tried to run away, but it was perfect. I just couldn't wait for him to get done so I could say yes! It was silly, emotional, nerve-wracking, and magical. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
