Savvy: Naturally, the first time I met Robert, he was in the kitchen cooking breakfast. It was December 30, 2017 and we were in Keystone, CO for a NYE ski trip and had been invited out by our mutual friends. Over that weekend, I noticed that Robert would wait for me on all the ski runs, but wrote it off to him being a super friendly/outgoing guy. Even when Robert slipped past one of his friends so he could sit next to me on the chair lift, I didn’t think much of it. Robert: When we were told that Savvy was going to be joining the boys for the day, we were not expecting the Chicago girl to be a proficient skier. Being the weakest rider of my friends, I felt a little relieved to know that I probably wasn’t going to be the last one. I was swiftly corrected, as Savvy, a California girl, had no problem keeping up with the boys. She followed us down moguls, to the back bowls, and through the trees. As the day went on, I made an effort to sit next to her on the lifts to get to know more about her and share my candies and whiskey. Robert: When Savvy walked into the party on the night of NYE, I was immediately taken aback. I was in the kitchen, hanging with my friends, occasionally glancing over to the living room to see her dancing in her black dress. “Who’s picking the music?” I asked Alex. “Savvy is,” he said. Savvy: There I was, the party DJ, minding my own business, just trying to choose the next song, when Robert walked up and started complimenting me on my playlist. Next thing I knew, he leaned in and gave me a kiss. I looked at him and he had the biggest grin. We danced the rest of that night away and although I knew I liked him, in my mind it wouldn’t be able to work out since I was living in Chicago and him in Denver/middle of nowhere Texas.

Robert: After Savvy and I parted ways that New Years, we kept in touch by exchanging songs, which led to surprise phone calls, texts and a developing mutual admiration for each other. Savvy: Robert would randomly call me every so often to catch up (those that know Robert know how much he loves his phone calls while he’s in Texas). I remember the first time he called me, it was at 7pm on a weekday and I looked at my roommate and was like “do you think this is a butt dial?” I fortunately made the right decision and answered it. We ended up talking for over an hour that night. Then during July of 2018, I realized that the Lollapalooza music festival was coming up and knew it would be the perfect time to invite Robert out. Within 15 minutes of asking if he would like to go with me, he had already bought his flight and Lollapalooza pass. Robert: Savvy invited me to come out to Chicago for a music festival. I was off that weekend and able to get an available ticket to the festival from my sister Adrienne, so I hopped on a plane and flew to Chicago. I went into the weekend knowing there was something special between us. At the time, I thought if this music festival goes well, maybe I would ask her out down the road. Savvy and I spent the weekend dancing and staring into each other’s eyes, jumping from show to show together. The night before I left, I had to ask her. I honestly thought she would tell me not yet, or it was too soon. And I was fine with that, fine with her knowing my intentions. But she said yes.

That weekend in Chicago was one of the most memorable of their lives and just the beginning of their story. They shared a love for each other, even though they would hold onto that secret for another month. Savvy moved to Denver, where they added Appa to their family, and then bought their first home together. On April 17, 2021, on a brisk day in Aspen, Colorado in the valley beneath the snow capped mountains, Robert asked Savvy to marry him surrounded by some of their closest friends. And on July 9th 2022, they will officially tie the knot :)
