How We Met

One chance encounter in Hawai'i, a lifetime of love began.

It all started with a single moment in Hawai'i. I was a student athlete in my junior year at the University of Hawai'i. During the summer, my teammates and I would work AAU tournaments as scorekeepers to make a little extra cash. The day we were supposed to start working the tournament, I got hurt in practice and ended up on crutches. I had to miss the first day of the tournament, and texted a girl named Shay (didn't realize she was Logan's sister at the time) who was managing all of the scorekeepers. She was kind and accommodated me the next day with a position near the front doors so I didn't have to crutch far. The table I was working happened to be right in front of the admin table, which is where Logan happened to be working. I supposedly stuck out to him as the "blonde girl wearing an Air Force 1 & walking boot on crutches". He happened to go up to my best friend, Jadynn, and ask who I was. Her being the best wing woman, she introduced us and he ended up asking for my SnapChat (lol). We chatted back and forth over the next couple days, but that ended up dying off after he left the island. We didn’t know it at the time, but that fleeting encounter would become the spark that would eventually ignite something beautiful. Life took us in different directions, and we both went on our separate paths, never expecting to see each other again. But fate had other plans. Two years later, we unexpectedly became coworkers. I took a graduate assistant position at Nevada not realizing Logan was also there. It was as if God had conspired to bring us together once more—this time, as best friends. We spent countless hours working side by side, laughing, learning, and supporting each other through both challenges and triumphs. Our bond grew stronger every day. I talked about Hawai'i so much during those times that he decided he wanted to move there. Logan landed a marketing job in Kauai, Hawai'i. Secretly, I was upset with this because he had become my best friend and we spent everyday together. I was planning to stay at Nevada another year, and thought we would just drift apart. Logan moved to Kauai and I continued to work at Nevada. About a month after Logan moved, I got a call from my former head coach at Hawai'i, asking me if I'd be interested in a job there. I immediately accepted, and the first person I told was my best friend, Logan. Once again, God nudged us back together and to where it all began: Hawai'i. This time, we weren’t just two strangers meeting for the first time, but two souls who had found their way back to each other. Rekindling our friendship felt like coming home, and we realized that this was where our story was meant to come full circle. At this point, we weren't dating and had just started exploring that option. I took the 20 minute flight to Kauai one weekend in August of 2022, and Logan asked me to be his girlfriend. I said yes (duh), and this was the start of our incredible journey as couple. The island that once brought us together had now become the backdrop of our love story, and we knew that this was just the beginning of the rest of our lives. From a single meeting in Hawai'i to best friends and coworkers, and then back to the place where it all started, our love story is a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life come when you least expect them—and sometimes, you have to come full circle to find the love you were always meant to have. -Sav 🤍💍
