We had to make the hard decision to cancel our wedding due to the pandemic. Our first priority is keeping everyone we love safe and healthy and a wedding of our size was just too risky. You all mean the world to us and while we can't all be together physically to celebrate our wedding, we appreciate the role each of you have played in our little story.
Maddie & Connor officially met in 2015 at an ad agency in Chicago where Maddie was an intern and Connor had just started in an entry-level role. A summer filled with friendship and volleyball and barbecues at Connor’s never turned romantic, though the thought lingered in both their minds. Maddie returned full time the next summer, and single. The relationship remained platonic, until one day Connor came in with a fresh haircut, and Maddie said “your haircut is handsome.” It was on. Connor asked Maddie to meet him and some friends to watch a Michigan football game at John Barleycorn in downtown Chicago. They stayed long after the game talking about their families and their aspirations, realizing they had a whole lot in common despite being from entirely different worlds. They walked out into the streets of Chicago where Connor expressed a lingering itch to jump off the Michigan Ave bridge into the Chicago River (gross, we know). To which Maddie, ever the adventurer, said “then why don’t you, in fact, I’ll join you.” They handed their phones and valuables to two random teenagers and jumped. They emerged from the water, caught taxis to their respective homes, both knowing this felt like the start of something real. Connor asked Maddie to meet him at Park Church the next morning, with a trip to Stan’s Donuts to follow. They ended up spending the entire day together. Connor called his mom that night and told her he was smitten with Maddie. Two weeks later Connor crashed a friend's trip Maddie had planned to Colorado, making up a story about how he also had been planning a similar trip. Their second night there Connor asked Maddie to be official. After a few too many drinks that evening, he also told Maddie he loved her all within four weeks. When you know, you know. Almost 5 years later, we find our young couple living in California and embracing the SoCal lifestyle with their golden dogter, Billie.
