One stormy night in May, while Toby was working a storm job at Crystal Lake in Andover, OH, he received a message from Savannah on Tinder. They had been matched for a few days, but ultimately neither of them felt strongly enough about each other’s profiles to actually message each other. Until Savannah, completely unable to sleep before going in for her midnight shift, messaged Toby, expecting just to have someone to chat to for the night. They spent every last minute of that night talking to each other, keeping Toby up way too late and ensuring he’d have a rough day at work the next day, and also making it absolutely impossible for Savannah to focus on work. This would be a recurring problem in their relationship, and even to this day they spend their nights talking each other into oblivion and ruining any and all hope of a productive day at work. That next morning after work, Savannah would ask her grandmother for opinions on his pictures from Tinder, and Sue would assure Savannah that Toby was not only “very cute” but she was very impressed with Toby’s stint in the Navy, and encouraged her to pursue him. So that night, she would ask Toby to join her at Raceway 7 in Kingsville, OH, a dirt racetrack that Savannah loved, but Toby had literally never heard of before. Armed with only a Google search of the location, Toby- absolutely sure he would have an awful time, as he had zero interest in racing- decided to give Savannah his address where she offered to pick him up, simply and only because “she looked cute”. The first thing Savannah did when meeting Toby in person was yell at him for giving her the wrong address (the wrong area code, taking her to an entirely different city 20 minutes away). The first thing Toby did when meeting Savannah in person, was make fun of her round-toed boots. Directly after that, they hugged and said their “hello”’s, and both agree that that hug was the moment they knew they’d be in each other’s lives, in some way or another, forever. After a brief meeting of the parents, the couple set out on their first of many adventures. Despite his best effort, Toby had a wonderful time and the smile never left his face; Savannah- being entirely too regular- filled him in on what was happening and held his hand through the entire event. After getting absolutely covered head to toe in dirt at the racetrack, they headed home- windows down, the radio blaring every show-tune the two could manage to remember, voices screeching right alongside it- Toby (and he will absolutely deny this even to this day but I swear to GOD it’s true) yelled above the music, “I think I love you!” pausing to think, then nodding his head again, “I love you!”
