We met August 12, 2018, on Texas A&M campus. I was sorting out things for the upcoming semester and he was asking for directions. As soon as he spoke, my heart fluttered. That accent. The smoothest southern draw I had ever heard asking for directions. I, of course, am terrible at directions so I offered to show him instead of embarrassing myself with trying to explain. Something about him just clicked and I knew this guy could be something special. Over the next few weeks, we grew to be best friends. Country life in College Station is much different than North Texas, but I tried to show him all the best parts like the stars at night on the outskirts of town, the lakes, the trails in Lick Creek Park, my church home, and of course, the multitude of restaurants and he did his best to assimilate to the “city life”. After several months we arranged a trip to Maryneal, TX. As we approached the heart of Maryneal, Toby suddenly pulled to dirt street off the main road. I heard the door open and him telling me to close my eyes and take his hand. He led me out of the truck into the icy wind of north Texas and I followed him blindly. He told me to uncover my eyes and look up and then… a marvelous blanket of glittering stars winked at me across a seemingly endless expanse. At this moment every doubt, worry, or fear vanished. In the days that followed, Toby would show me the place he called home, and soon it would capture my heart just as he had so many months earlier. We have grown many ways in the time that we have known each other. We are relentless with our desire to never break the three cord bond between us and the One who holds us together, resilient against all odds, and have the strength that is found only in the covenant of love to overcome the circumstances of this world. We are thankful that each one of you can join us on the day we make this covenant with each other in the presence of our Father and soon begin the next chapter of our lives together.
