My best friend introduced us and we've both always thought it was so strange that we have so many mutual friends but didn't meet until later in life. It must have been perfect timing. We lived 2 1/2 hours apart and Mikey planned our first date halfway in-between us. It was August 22nd and sticky hot. We met in the Walmart parking lot before riding together. (Mikey's wagon has no air conditioning and anyone who knows me well knows that I REALLY love modern conveniences, so we agreed to take my car from there.) I'll never forget that first moment, sitting nervously in my car waiting for this stranger. It was my first setup and all I knew about him was that he was known for being the most generous person on the planet and had love for graphic t-shirts. I remember two vivid things about my first impression of him that day. 1. His shirt had portraits of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi, and Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (all wearing Ninja Turtle Masks). 2. His first words: "It's hot. Wanna Gatorade or something?" Within 30 seconds he demonstrated my two favorite qualities of him: his goofy, child-like nature and generosity. I later learned that his t-shirts serve as a "badge" for his silly, sweet heart, and though there are more Woot t-shirts than anything else in our closet, I've learned to embrace and love them. Mikey is easy-going, kind and gentle. He's spontaneous and a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of guy. He's incredibly optimistic and a rule-follower. I have an intense personality- I plan everything (we're talking spreadsheets and Google Doc planning). I'm high-strung, tend to stress WAY more than I should and I tend to want to run before I can walk. I'm an incredibly passionate person and can totally be a rule-breaker. Mikey mellows me out. We've found a nice balance of spontaneity I've introduced him to the joys of organization. We're the quintessential story of opposites attract.
