Savannah and Jesiah met at a community carnival for a youth camp. Savannah was helping run a booth when Jesiah showed up as an attendee. We immediately hit it off! (Don't tell the leaders of the camp, but Savannah left her booth to play a few games with Jesiah). Then, Jesiah helped Savannah run her booth for the rest of the event. After a lot of conversation that night—and then many, many more conversations—we began dating on September 5, 2018.
We've done a lot over the course of our relationship! We have visited Michigan, Oregon, California, and Texas together and have been to Sequoia, Yosemite, Redwood, and Kings Canyon National Parks. We did a year of long-distance that was quickly followed up by months spent together during lockdown. Through it all, we've loved exploring and growing together.
Jesiah took Savannah to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to walk around the galleries and have a picnic. We spent time looking at the art and viewing the exhibit "Monet Water Lilies: From Dawn to Dusk." The set-up was important because we went to the museum for our first date and had a picnic after. There have been many more picnics and trips to the museum, but this was by far our favorite! Jesiah packed a picnic (with a little help from Avery!) in a basket that we bought on our anniversary at first weekends in the West Bottoms. Just after we sat down, Jesiah found a reason for us to stand up before he got down on one knee to ask the question—which was immediately met with a resounding yes! After the proposal, Jesiah took Savannah to see friends and family and celebrate our engagement!
Having two proposals was important to us because Jesiah wanted to wear an engagement ring as well! On the day of, Savannah took Jesiah to do all of our favorite things. We visited the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and saw the "Pulse Topology" exhibit, went to Prospero's Books and record shopping, painted pottery (per Jesiah's request), and had another picnic—but this time at the riverfront park! In the evening, Savannah took Jesiah to 18 Broadway Urban Garden to ask the big question for the second time. After the obvious "yes," we went to dinner to celebrate with family and friends! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our lives with you and can't wait for you to join us!
