Closer than Crane Estate but also filled with beautiful gardens and wonderful views.

New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill

Only a 2 hours drive and filled with mountains of all skill sets. The leaves at that time should also be perfect for peeping if you're just in for a drive, rather than a hike.

White Mountain National Forest

Perfect for grabbing some take-out and watching the sunset on the beach.
