Somehow, during Austin's short time at Wayne State, we ended up at Country Night at the same time on a chilly October night. I had spent the night line dancing but had unknowingly caught a particularly red-headed guys' eye and the second I sat down for a break, he asked for a dance. He was under the assumption that I didn't know how to swing dance and he was in for a surprise! We spent the rest of that night talking about our interests, hobbies, work, and what we were studying. Truthfully, I had noticed him at a country night before but he always had a dance partner. We stayed for hours after country night ended standing under the street lamp next to the tennis courts on campus talking with our breath fogging in the air. Eventually I offered to drive him back to his dorm which was only a short walk away (I wasn't ready to officially say goodbye). When he designed my engagement ring, he had "Under the Light" inscribed on the inside to signify the night we met. From there on, we were inseperable (although we didn't start dating until 6 months later) the night before he was to leave for the Marines. We both feel so lucky to have met each other and continue to dance every opportunity we get!
