How We Met

Ali and I met thanks to the wide world of the internet and online dating. We talked for a few days before deciding that it was finally time to meet each other in person at Starbucks. Nothing says true love like a Venti Mocha. Just kidding, we didn't get any coffee that day. After talking for an hour we went to Chipotle for supper and then to see the worst horror movie on the face of the planet. Once we got back to Ali's car, I quickly jumped out before he could try to give me a goodnight kiss, as I am not one to kiss on the first date. Later, I found out that I was the only girl he has ever taken on a date and not kissed that first night. Since, I have jokingly told that it was his sign that I'm his forever.

The First "I love you"

Most people by now know what an awkward person I am. Well if he didn't know it yet, Ali was about to find out. I will never forget the day that Ali first told me he loved me. We had just finished another successful date night and I was dropping him off at home. He got out of the door, turned around to what I was assuming was going to him swooping in for a goodnight kiss, and instead he looks at me and with the sweetest smile tells me he loves me. In that moment I only had 3 words to say back to him.... "welp, okay bye." And with that I drove away. It wasn't until I got home and finished kicking myself that I finally texted Ali and told him that I loved him too. Needless to say, I have never been good at the romantics.

The Proposal

As I mentioned before, I'm not one for the romantics. Thankfully, Ali isn't either. When it comes to a young girl dreaming about how her future husband will propose to her, it doesn't involve our love story. The day that Ali proposed to me started off like any other typical Saturday for us. We decided to go Disc Golfing and invited his sister Jenna to go with us. After a long, hot day on the disc golf range, Jenna asked Ali and I to go to Petland to look at dogs. Now anyone who truly knows me, knows that I am a sucker for dogs. So we agree and head over, despite my warnings that I will find a dog to fall in love with. It's just inevitable. We walk in and sure enough no more than 20 minutes later I am holding a Beagle puppy in my arms. I had fallen in love. The issue was that the dog was more than anyone should ever have to pay to take a sweet pup home. Now I'm not going to lie, I was crunching numbers in my head trying to figure out how I could possibly afford this dog and keep it hidden from my landlord. Just as I had decided I was going to sell my left kidney to pay for the dog, Ali sits beside me on the bench and we start talking numbers. He then tells me that he feels our best option is to wait. I knew he was right, but I didn't want to admit it to myself yet. He then looks at me and says "I know you really want that dog, but right now I need to know if you'd rather have a puppy or a ring." I thought he was talking about in the future so I just mumble to myself some. Before I know it, he is pulling out the box and asking me to marry him. Well, me being me, looks at him, laughs awkwardly and uncontrollably for a long time, calls him stupid, and asks if he's really doing this right now, before finally giving him the answer that he wanted to hear. Of course, it was a yes to spending the rest of my life with the man I love and who stole my heart. Still no puppy though.
