We will post more info soon regarding specific hotel and condo recommendations. If you want to get a jump on planning, please consider either the West Side of Maui (Lahaina) or the South Side of Maui (Kihei) for lodging. More info below...
Question

Where do you fly into?

Answer

Maui's airport code is OGG. Many mainland flights come through Oahu, but there are also direct flights coming from some mainland cities.

Question

Do you need a car to get around?

Answer

Maui is small but also very spread out. You could stay in Lahaina, Ka'anapali or Kihei and get by without a car, however, if you want to see the sights, then a car is needed. Rental cars from the airport are somewhat pricey. There is also a used rental car business near the airport that offers used cars at a lower rate. More info about this to come...

Question

Is a vacation in Hawaii very costly?

Answer

In general, you can expect to pay a bit more for a rental car, gas, groceries and restaurants. Accommodations vary tremendously based on location and you will be able to find something perfect for your budget. If you want to stretch your dollars, we recommend staying at a condo as the resorts and hotels cater to guests who like to visit the restaurant 3 times per day. Maui does have a big Costco!

Question

Is Hawaii worth the effort?

Answer

Hawaii is one of the most beautiful and accommodating tropical places in the world to visit. The colors are vibrant, the flowers abundant, the waters clear, the food is fresh, and there is lots of Aloha. There are beach activities, waterfall hikes, a volcano to explore, and lots of places to relax. And a memorable wedding to attend!

Question

When will we have to RSVP?

Answer

We will reach out in early 2021 with our first RSVP request, and then again in the summer. You will use this website to RSVP.

Question

West Side of Maui? (Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Kahana, Honokawai, Napili)

Answer

Lahaina: a quaint tourist town with shops, art galleries, eateries, a marina, small hotels and low rise condos. Warm and dry. Swimming beaches near by, but Lahaina town proper is mainly a rocky shoreline Ka'anapali: (North of Lahaina). High end resorts and condos of various prices on and near the water. The main beach in Kaanapali is beautiful with excellent swimming, cliff jumping, snorkeling. One of Maui's premier locations but expect lots of tourists. (expect to pay for parking at some locations) Kahana: high rise condos on the water. Great views with limited sand on the beach. Honokawai: (continuing North) A few low key resorts and condos on the water. Beach here is pretty but rocky. Napili Bay: Gorgeous bay with excellent swimming and snorkeling nearby. More laid back with low rise buildings. Connects with long walking trail along the coast. A bit far from Central Maui and a bit more rainy, but extremely picturesque location.

Question

Central Maui?

Answer

Kahului: (North Central) Airport, Costco, Whole Foods, commercial district. Avoid this area for lodging. Ma'alaea: (South Central) Marina, Aquarium, 2 eateries, and a few ocean front condos. Beach is rocky but excellent for walking at low tide. Expect to drive to other beaches for good swimming.

Question

South Side of Maui? (Kihei and Wailea)

Answer

Sugar Beach and North Kihei: Many condos that extend for miles down a sandy coastline excellent for walking with some swimming (not the best). Very close drive to shopping, eateries, and excellent beaches. Centrally located for many other Maui activities and priced well. Tends to be warm and dry. Central and South Kihei: Commercial area with eateries, shopping, and excellent beaches. South Kihei Road is busy and can have traffic. Many nice condos in this area but expect some road noise unless your condo is set back or faces the water. Some good beginning surfing nearby, good swimming and some snorkeling. Tennis, kids' park, a skating rink (all subject to Covid). Tends to be warm and dry. Wailea: heading South of Kihei. Various gorgeous beaches, snorkeling, nice shops and eateries, and beautiful resorts and oceanfront condos. Excellent weather, spacious areas, and relatively quiet. Visit these beaches but expect to pay top dollar for the resorts or condos in this area.

Question

North Shore and Up Country?

Answer

All other areas will have unpredictable weather but are great for a day visit or for the more adventurous traveller. Paia (pronounced Pa-ee-ya): tiny quintessential surfer beach town with fun eateries, cocktails, shops, an organic food store, kava bar, 3 beaches, and casual lodging. During peak travel months it's bustling with surfers, hippies, and international travelers. Weather is usually good but can be very windy. Haiku: local style town with private rentals, a few eateries, and nearby waterfalls. Weather can vary from perfect to cloudy/rainy. Hana: the remote gorgeous East side of Maui with jungles, beaches, and waterfalls. Very few amenities. One resort and numerous air bnbs. Hana can be done in 1 very long day or as a 1-3 nt stay. Be forewarned that the weather is unpredictable in November.
