Kaitlyn and Jonathan met at the Kendallville Kroger where they were both working part-time in high school. Kaitlyn and Jonathan shared a shift during Labor Day weekend in 2015, during which they were introduced. After that day, every task became a two-person task. After a few weeks, Kaitlyn asked Jonathan to attend her winter semi-formal, and he agreed. They went on their first date on November 6th 2015 and never stopped dating.

Kaitlyn and Jonathan had planned one last vacation for 2024 to Sault Ste. Marie, MI to experience fall in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Friday they were set to leave, Kaitlyn woke up with a severe allergic reaction and spent the morning in the hospital. After encouragement from her mom and Jonathan, Kaitlyn agreed to still travel. Due to the health scare, Kaitlyn had no expectations of a proposal. On Saturday, October 26th, 2024, Jonathan suggested they drive around to watch the sunset over the river. While watching the sunset over the St. Marys River, Jonathan got down on one knee and asked Kaitlyn to marry him.
