How We MetHow We Met

Victoria was a first-grade teacher who thrived on energy — in the classroom, with her students, and with the colleagues she interacted with daily. She was outgoing, confident, and, admittedly, a bit protective of her heart. Relationships weren’t on her radar, especially not with someone like Saul. He was the quiet, reserved fourth-grade teacher who always seemed to be working alone, head down, focused on his lesson plans. She didn’t think they had much in common, and certainly, she didn’t think someone like him could catch her attention. But the Día de los Muertos project changed everything. It was a cross-grade collaboration, and for the first time, Victoria and Saul were thrown into close proximity. At first, she kept her distance. She didn’t want to get involved with someone who might complicate things, especially when she was planning to move to the East Coast at the end of the year. Still, there was something about Saul that kept drawing her in — his calm, thoughtful presence and his incredible work ethic. They spent the next few weeks working together, and Victoria couldn’t help but admire Saul’s dedication to making every part of the project meaningful. His patience and attention to detail stood out to her, and she began to notice him more — not just as a colleague, but as someone who quietly commanded attention. But whenever the topic of their future came up, Victoria would remind him, “I’m moving to the East Coast after the year ends. I’m not looking for anything serious.” Saul, undeterred, always replied, “I don’t care about that.” He wasn’t intimidated by her reluctance, and his persistence began to break through her walls. Slowly, Victoria realized she admired more than just his work ethic. There was something about his calm confidence, his steady presence, that made her feel seen and understood. Over time, Victoria’s reservations started to melt away. Saul’s quiet persistence and genuine nature had swept her off her feet. She stopped worrying about what the future might hold and let herself fall for him — not because it was easy, but because it felt right. In the end, their story wasn’t one of grand gestures but of quiet, steady love, built on respect, patience, and shared moments of connection.
