Saúl and Emily met in the fall of 2017 as college students at Eastern Washington University. They started spending more time together at football games, college parties, "family dinners" with their friend group, and bonfires at his house. One thing that really attracted Saúl to Emily was when he learned that she could speak Spanish. She had taken Spanish classes at her high school, then continued them at college not knowing the impact that would have in the future. This was something very important to Saúl because it meant she could communicate and connect with his family. In June of 2018 they officially started dating, met each other's families, and traveled for the first time together. They took trips to Disneyland and Cabo, where they learned that one of them really over-packs for vacations. The couple graduated from EWU together in 2019. GO EAGLES! Saúl's degree in education, and Emily's in psychology worked out perfectly for the life they have now. They both work in middle schools; Saúl is a dual language social studies teacher, and Emily is a school counselor. This allows them to love what they do each day and they get to spend every summer together. Their love grew over the years, all while facing the challenges life threw at them. One of those challenges included COVID-19 which hindered their plans to visit Spain in 2020. When it was finally safe to travel again in 2023, they were able to visit Valencia, Madrid and their personal favorite, Barcelona. The couple did a city tour in Barcelona, and the final stop was at the Basilica De La Sagrada Familia, a beautiful cathedral. In the church, Saúl got down on one knee and proposed in front of a large crowd of people, who promptly cheered and congratulated them. Needless to say, the rest of the trip was magical! The couple can’t wait to say “I do” in June 2025 with all of their favorite people in one of their favorite places. Chelan holds a special place in both Saúl and Emily’s hearts as it is somewhere they both grew up going in the summers as kids. Let's get married!!
