Once upon a time, there was a girl and a boy. The girl lived in a bustling seaside town called Los Angeles, and the boy lived in the not-so-bustling seaside town of Anacortes. They lived their lives until one day, at a new staff orientation for their school district, they met. The boy was tired, sunburnt, and frazzled from a week-long camping trip with his family. The girl was very ill, masked, and not happy about attending the orientation, but she wanted to make a good impression with her new employer. The boy noticed the small group of Sehome hires but didn’t dwell too long on introductions or small talk. The girl looked at the boy, with his red eyes, sunburned face, and long, uncombed blonde hair, and thought to herself, “This stupid dirty hippy. Why is he high at this thing?” Years later, she would learn he was not high. The story of their first meeting ends there. Pretty aromantic, right?
