We met in the Summer of 2008 on a night out with friends. It wasn't unusual to see the same faces every weekend at Chativa's, a local popular bar at the time, but that particular night Alex showed up and I thought to myself "he's new, who's that!?" It was his sweet smile that caught my attention. I didn't have the courage, at the time, to approach Alex myself but luckily, a mutual friend was there that night who introduced us to each other. It was a quick meeting and short conversation, then we headed off to opposite sides of the bar. He was definitely trying to play it cool. Right before I left for the night Alex popped back over and invited me and our friends to his house the next day for a BBQ. Partly indifferent but still intrigued by Alex, I joined them to the BBQ and am happy now to say I did! We exchanged numbers that day but it took 2 months of Alex's persistence before going on our first date. We talked for hours that night and it was so easy for us to get to know one another. Reminiscing back, we both always say how comfortable we felt with each other and how good that feeling was! 13 years later, sharing a beautiful daughter, and a stronger love, we are ready to say "we do!"
Early on in our relationship, It was obvious to me that I wanted to marry Sasha. She moved to Chicago for school and I thought that would be the end of our relationship. But when she moved back to California, I knew there was still a chance for our relationship to grow. After years of dating and several moves to different cities, we worked to stay together and I recognized that the bond we shared was something special and I never wanted to let that go. When we found out we were expecting our daughter, it was the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced and I knew it was the perfect time ask her to be my wife. I had already planned to propose to her on the day of our baby shower. I wasn't sure exactly at what moment but I was determined to ask her on that day. Just know, I was a nervous wreck. We had just finished setting up that party and as we were on our way out the door heading home to get ready, I just felt it was the perfect intimate and unexpected time to ask her. I knew she wouldn't have seen it coming and successfully she didn't. We were stopped and asked to take a photo together and right at that moment I told her how much she meant to me as I got down on one knee to ask her to marry me. She said yes. WOW!
