Sometimes, love really does find you when you least expect it. I was entering my third-year of medical school in 2022 when we met and was stressed, tired, and anxious about starting clinical rotations. Dating was not even on my radar and it had not been for the past 24 years. However, I was charmed to go on a first date at a seafood restaurant and pulling into the restaurant, I saw a handsome man, wearing a penguin patterned button-up, already waiting for me. We had not spoken much yet but somehow I already had a feeling that we would last. Our first date only solidified this feeling, especially when we continued our date at Butterfly World and I wanted him to hold my hand while we were walking across a wobbly bridge. After about a month of going on dates (where I beat him at minigolf and bowling), I was talking to my roommate at the time and wondering if we were “official” or not. Roy had not asked me to be his girlfriend and with zero dating experience, I was not sure what to do. I picked up my phone and called him, my nerves making me nauseous, and asked “Hey…so what are we?” Fast forward to now, almost four years later, and we’ve been at each others’ sides through major life events and have moved cities together. I’ve also converted Roy into a boba lover even though he said he didn’t want to date someone who was obsessed with boba previously. I love the life that we have built together including co-parenting our sweet cat, Penny and I am incredibly excited to continue spending every day with him.
I moved to South Florida for my first real job in March 2022. Finding my first job was a relief, and I was beginning to feel optimistic about my life. "Now I'm just missing someone to share it with." Meeting Sarvika less than one month after moving to South Florida was like winning the lottery. I immediately knew we were a good match. Talking to her during our first date came naturally. I was drawn to her intelligence, beauty, and cuteness. Every moment we spent together was filled with fun and happiness, and we quickly became attached to each other. Gradually, my first job made me unhappy, and I felt lost. I told Sarvika that I missed my days as a volunteer helping turtles in Jacksonville. I was just grateful to be heard, but a few days later I noticed Sarvika on her phone googling volunteering opportunities in South Florida. I never asked her to do that. As a med student, she already had plenty of things she could be doing with her time. That display of selflessness is what made me fall in love with her.
