Our Story

Before starting medical school, I (Katelyn) visited Cincinnati to attend an admitted students day event. I didn't know anyone there so during the opening convocation I made conversation with Michael, the cute guy from Notre Dame sitting in front of me. I immediately knew that there was something special about him. I didn't allow myself to think anything more of it, though, as neither of us had officially committed to Cincinnati yet. When school started three months later, my friend Sofie invited me to join the student led Bible study. Much to my excitement, I saw Michael there. I was thrilled to learn that he was also a Christian. When I approached him afterwards I was quite embarrassed to learn that he didn't remember our initial meeting. We had a good conversation after this, and like a true gentleman he walked me to my car, but due to our awkward start I believed our chances at a relationship were over. We continued to run in the same circle as friends, but I never thought it would become anything more. Now it's my (Michael's) turn to jump in. Going to Cincinnati was a whirlwind--medical school had just started, and I was trying to get my bearings. However, when I met Katelyn (admittedly, apparently the second time), I was immediately drawn to her. She was beautiful and sweet, and very obviously a woman of God. I had resolved to stay out of relationship though, and was not going to date anyone for at least a year... or so I thought. Every time I saw Katelyn, I was drawn to her more than the day before. She was sweet, intelligent, and intentional. I even recall telling my cousin that I had a feeling I would marry Katelyn. One day though, I had some friends over for dinner, and I decided to teach them to swing dance. As we all took turns dancing, I noticed something unique with Katelyn. We were lock in step from the beginning, and we had total trust in each other. We proceeded to dance for hours, even after the others left, and learned to do moves I had never done before. I was in love. A few weeks later. Michael joined me (Katelyn) and my roommate for a homemade pizza night. Things seemed to change after this, he seemed to want to talk to me a lot more. I did not want to get my hopes up though, so I stayed blind to the signs. Everyone except for me seemed to take notice of Michael's interest in me. It wasn't until a night of swing dancing with friends that I realized the feeling was mutual. Michael invited me on our first date to the salsa ball soon thereafter. We dated for two wonderful years before getting engaged. During this time, we continued to dance whenever possible, and have enjoyed growing together, frequenting Pepp & Dolores for dinner, and traveling to visit family and friends. We have also learned to cook, become avid cyclists, and board game enthusiasts. We are excited to see what our future has in store for us, and are looking forward to you joining us in that adventure!
