In no time, their two best friends fell in love, and so our heroes spent the next four years with all the same people, in all the same places, without ever saying a single word to one another. With barely a backward glance, they launched into the wide world—Sara diving headfirst into a new city in search of a fresh start, and Enrique returning to Brooklyn to begin his work. It would be another two years before they were formally introduced at an arcade bar in Boston, and another three before they ever thought of each other as more than just “Lissa & Eli’s friend.” Then, on June 25, 2022, a single message altered the course of their lives forever—setting loose a cascade of rapid-fire events that left expectations adrift, their friends dazed and confused, and their hearts aflame.
