Travis & Sarah met at a young adult group called the Porch at New Covenant Bible Church. They found out they had mutual connections since both graduated from the Marion Homeschool Assistance Program, and Sarah knew some of Travis’ younger siblings. The night ended and neither party thought anything of it.
Travis and Sarah both ended up at a swing dance that our mutual friend Maree was hosting. They both remember dancing with each other once—Sarah’s brother Jacob was explaining a dance move and had Travis dance with Sarah. They all started attending a young adult group/Bible discussion called Cross and participated in various events together throughout the next year.
Sarah was having people over after going rollerblading, and Travis showed up late. They ended up sitting next to each other and got into a conversation about books, theology, Calvinism and limited atonement. Unbeknownst to Sarah, a mutual friend had been encouraging Travis that very day to consider asking Sarah out. Sarah remembers that night being the first time she’d considered seeing Travis as more than a friend.
It was a Tuesday evening after work, Sarah felt pretty tired and was going to take a nap. At this point it was very clear Travis was interested in her, and she wondered when he was finally going to ask her out. Suddenly, she got a phone call from Travis. She answered, and after some brief conversation, Travis explained that he had found out a few hours ago that his brother and sister-in-law had given him free tickets to see the musical Annie that night. Since he knew how much Sarah loved musicals, he wanted to know if she would be interested in coming. Sarah asked, "Travis, are you asking me on a date?" Travis replied, "Yes, yes I am." And magically, Sarah wasn't tired anymore!
The couple was going on a walk at Morgan Creek Park, which was also where they'd gone for their third date. After stopping on a bridge and reminiscing about our relationship, Travis commented that while he'd made a commitment in words, it was time for something more tangible. He got down on one knee, and asked Sarah to marry him. Sarah said "Of course!!" Sarah's roommates, Olivia and Isabelle, were hiding in the bushes taking photos and videos. Sarah—though she knew the ring was coming—hadn't expected a proposal until later in the year and was completely surprised!
