On December 6th, 2017 Matt and Sarah met at their favorite live music venue in Nashville, The Basement on 8th Ave. Sarah had been in a writing session all day with a friend in from out of town who after a few tries, finally talked her into going out to hear some live music for the evening. First was the Bluebird Cafe and then The Basement. Matt was playing the 9pm show with some friends that night, one of whom was a friend of Sarah’s writing partner and the other of whom Sarah knew from the music scene in town. Still not having met, however, stealing a few glances at one another in the foyer before the show began, Sarah sat down at the front table with some “strangers” who have since become dear family friends of the couple. After the show, they exchanged a few pleasantries and Matt invited Sarah to a Holiday Party later that week. There, they connected more, they drank, they laughed, they became good friends and over the course of the next six months grew closer and naturally fell into a relationship. Then they broke up! Then they got back together! And THEN!!! He asked her to marry him! Fun fact: these two lovebirds discovered they had actually “met” via text a year before actually “meeting” by way of a mutual friend who wanted to connect them shortly after Matt moved to Nashville and about six years after Sarah had called Nashville home. At the time they were two ships crossing, never actually in Nashville at the same time.
Shortly after they got back together, Matt knew two things: 1) He wanted to build a two-seater bench with Sarah so they could enjoy their garden together 2) He knew he wanted to marry Sarah, and he wanted to propose to her on the bench they built together in their garden on the day that they met two years prior On December 6th 2019 he did just that. He popped the question, she wept like a baby, forgot the question... so he asked her again and she said YES!!! He had Ella Fitzgerald spinning on the turntable, white lillies adorning the living room, red wine poured, the ring in his pocket and dinner reservations made at their favorite Nashville restaurant, Adele's. WELL. DONE. SIR. Fun fact: Matt bought the ring earlier that August when he was on tour through the West Coast and had been hiding it all the months in between in the hutch next to their bed. Sarah had no idea! Another fun fact: Sarah joined Matt on the second half of that tour and still had no idea!
