Flight
Calgary International Airport (YYC) is 90 miles/145 km from Banff and is a very scenic 95 minute drive. Traffic can be variable, especially on Friday afternoon, so keep this in mind! Calgary has direct flights to many destinations. Some guests may want to consider flying into Calgary on Thursday night, staying in a hotel near the airport and driving in on Friday morning to get daytime views of the mountains and stop for some hiking or sightseeing on the way in.
Rental Car
There are many options for getting from Calgary to Banff. The drive is 1.5 hours. If you would like to explore the surrounding area (which we highly recommend!), a car is recommended. Once you get to Banff, the town is highly accessible without a car. Shuttles will be provided to our Friday night and Sunday events, and Saturday is in the center of town. If you plan to not rent a car, Banff Airporter offers shared shuttles from Calgary Airport to Banff and is 15% off with code "SARAHMATTHEW" ($70 CAD / $51 USD one way) at BanffAirporter.com. Please note that UBER DOES NOT OPERATE in Banff, though there are some local taxi companies and local buses within the city of Banff.
Travel Note
Banff National Park encompasses over 2,500 square miles of pristine wilderness in the Canadian Rockies. The town of Banff lies within the park and is home to most hotels, restaurants, and local attractions. While the town offers easy access to beautiful hikes and nearby lakes, some of the park’s most famous sights, like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, are about 45 minutes away. Our wedding events are all in the town of Banff, so we recommend staying in center of town.
