Sarah Kate and Tyler’s paths crossed many times growing up. They attended two of the same churches and even played Upward basketball during elementary school — yet somehow never met. During freshman year of high school, they had History class together. Because of the seating chart, they sat right next to each other the entire year… and only talked once. Sarah Kate thought Tyler was cute, but neither ever made a move. They continued to share classes over the years but barely spoke. Fast-forward to senior year. Outreach gospel nights called Jesus Rally started happening at their high school. Both served on the leadership team — and this was the first time they actually noticed each other. They also discovered they both planned to attend K-State. Around this time, a Satanist student attended their school. Sarah Kate had always hoped to share the Gospel with him before graduation. She wanted someone strong in faith to go with her — and she thought of Tyler. She invited him over Snapchat to join her, and soon they found themselves talking constantly while planning how to share Jesus at lunch. Through this mission, they became great friends and started hanging out throughout the week. Their first “official” date wasn’t supposed to be a date at all. They liked each other but refused to admit it… for a whole month. Sarah Kate invited Tyler to her church’s Sunday night service with friends. But afterward, when she asked if he wanted to go to Culver’s, the friends mysteriously vanished — they were setting the two of them up. Both were extremely nervous. Tyler was shaking. Sarah Kate was mid-bite of a pretzel bite when Tyler asked her a question — she started choking. Tyler, so nervous himself, didn’t even notice she was choking! He drove home thinking he absolutely nailed the date. Meanwhile, Sarah Kate called her friends in a state of full panic because she was mortified that she had choked on a pretzel. After that date, they kept going on more dates! A month later, right after graduation, they ended up walking out to their cars at the exact same time. They went to Sonic, confessed their feelings, and began dating on May 19th, 2024 — all by the grace of God. Since then, they have both become business students at K-State. They serve at their church, Rock Hills in Manhattan, Kansas!
