Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Sarah Stripp and Joshua Stretch
We are really grateful for the opportunity to share the city and state that we love with so many of you. Here are some of our favorite places to eat, hang out, and enjoy a nice walk. We hope you' will take some time to explore all Jackson has to offer while you are here. Zola will not let us add headings, but it's generally arranged as museums, then nature forward, then places to eat/shop! This is a lot of recommendations, but there are so many places we love and want to share with you.

Two Mississippi Museums

222 North Street, Jackson, MS 39201

The Museum of Mississippi History and The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum offer a very thoughtful look into our state's past and present. We highly recommend these two if you're looking to learn more about Mississippi during your visit. Nick Wallace (of Chopped fame!) has a cafe on-site. Great place for lunch between the museums.

Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument

2332 Margaret W Alexander Drive, Jackson, MS 39213

The home of civil rights veterans Medgar and Myrlie Evers was just made a national monument this year. The assassination of Medgar Evers in the carport of their home on June 12, 1963, was the first murder of a nationally significant leader of the American Civil Rights Movement, and it became a catalyst for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Mississippi Museum of Art

380 South Lamar Street, Jackson, MS 39201

You will have full access to the museum during our reception, but if you think you'll be too busy dancing to enjoy the galleries, we encourage you to stop by. The Picasso Landscapes exhibit doesn't open until our actual wedding day, though!

Eudora Welty House & Garden

1109 Pinehurst Street, Jackson, MS 39202

The home of great southern writer Eudora Welty is right in the middle of Jackson and open Tuesday-Friday for tours and visitors.

Mississippi Children's Museum

2145 Museum Boulevard, Jackson, MS 39202

If you're bringing kids, the Mississippi Children's Museum is the place to go! Tons of fun exhibits and places for kids of all ages to play.

Mississippi Museum of Natural Science

2148 Riverside Drive, Jackson, MS 39202

Another great spot for kids - or adults interested in learning more about the land and wildlife in Mississippi. Located right next to the children's museum, there's also a great new playground for kids to enjoy.

Mississippi State Capitol

400 High Street, Jackson, MS 39201

The legislature will not be in session, but the Capitol building and grounds are beautiful to visit.

Natchez Trace Parkway

100 East Jackson Street, Ridgeland, MS 39157

This is where we got engaged, our favorite place to walk the dogs, and where Sarah spends every Saturday morning when she's training for races. It should be particularly beautiful in November with the leaves changing, so head up for a walk or a drive if you can.

Museum Trail

707 Monroe Street, Jackson, MS 39202

Another favorite space to walk the dogs and get some exercise and a bit closer than the Trace. Plus, the start of the trail has one of our favorite murals in the city.

LeFleur's Bluff State Park Mayes Lake

3315 Lakeland Terrace, Jackson, MS 39216

Another fun spot to to hike, picnic, and enjoy the outdoors. There's a disc golf course for those interested.

Lemuria Books

4465 Interstate 55, Jackson, MS 39206

You can probably guess that we both like books a lot. We love our local bookstore Lemuria. A great local shop to find something to bring a little bit of Mississippi home with you.

Belhaven Town Center

1121 North Jefferson Street, Jackson, MS 39202

This is where our welcome event will be, but it's worth going more than once. Truly one of our favorite spots with something for everyone: Fertile Ground Brewing (great brewery), Pulito (Italian restaurant where we went after we got engaged. Best Caesar salad ever. No joke. Reservation recommended.), Elvie's (all-day café highlighting southern farmers - delicious, but also make a reservation), Good Bar (outdoor craft cocktails, mocktails, & snacks) Mayday (ice cream!), and District Donuts (donuts, coffee, cocktails, and sliders). Plus there's often food trucks, live music, and plenty of space to sit outside and chill.

Mississippi Farmers Market

929 High Street, Jackson, MS 39202

We are here basically every Saturday morning. If you don't need veggies, there are plenty of art vendors and things you can take home like jams, grits, and hot sauce. It's worth the trip just to get a croissant from Just Vanilla Bakes!

The Beagle Bagel Cafe

4500 Interstate 55 North Frontage Road, Jackson, MS 39211

Quick breakfast or lunch - Josh has come to agree with Sarah that the Super Veggie is one of the best things on the menu. Price Point: $

Dive bar atmosphere with ridiculously good food (no joke). Price Point: $
