I dropped Sarah off at the nail salon and sped to Baldwin's Book Barn to meet the photographer (Heather @HBPhotography) and set up all the clues. I got done just in time and picked up Sarah, who I was sure was none the wiser. When we arrived, I gave her a card -- her first clue -- and said goodbye. While Sarah and Heather went inside to find the other clues, I went around the barn to the stone and grass ramp to wait for them. Heather came out as Sarah was finding the penultimate clue, and as Sarah opened the door I was waiting to propose. I gave an adorable and heart felt speech, and (surprise) she said yes! Somehow, she knew that I would be proposing that day, and as she accepted my proposal, she pulled out a ring of her own and proposed to me too. (I also said yes!)
It started off like any other Sunday, we woke up late, drank coffee and then went to the thrift store. But I had a strong feeling it wasn't going to be like any other Sunday because Eric had made me a nail appointment for that afternoon and had told me to dress nicely as if we were going to have pictures taken... I chose to refrain from asking questions but I knew it had to be the day he was proposing. When Eric picked me up from the nail salon, he wouldn't tell me where we were heading. Based on the direction he was driving, I figured we were either going to West Chester University's Campus or Everhart Park but he drove past both. He drove into the parking lot of the Old Book Barn where my college friend, Heather was standing with her two large cameras (she has a small photography business). That's when I knew I had guessed right, he definitely was proposing today! What I didn't expect was for Eric to hand me an envelope and say "Good luck, I'll see you later!" before getting back into the car. The first card lead me to the bottom floor of the Book Barn. At first, I didn't know I was supposed to look for books but Heather pointed me in the right direction and I found the large red book that lead me to the second location. The second book and third book took me forever to find but then I got the hang of it, finding the next four pretty quickly or so I thought. It turns out that it took me 45 minutes to find them all but it didn't feel that long at all. When I opened the back door of the barn like the last clue directed me to, I saw Eric standing there with a big smile on his face. To be honest, I don't remember a word he said but I couldn't stop smiling. After he proposed to me, I pulled out a ring that I had bought for him the day before since I had guessed he would propose soon. I said "Since a relationship is between two partners, I want to propose to you too. Will you marry me as well?" and he said yes! Now we have to get used to calling each other Fiance!
While researching different marriage licenses, we discovered that the state of Pennsylvania offers a self-uniting license that only requires two witnesses to sign -- no officiant. So, on a random Wednesday in May, we decided it was the perfect day to get married! We got dressed up, blew up some balloons, and took out a pen. Sarah's dad and Eric's mom signed as witnesses, along with the bride and groom of course, and Ta-Dah! We were married! To celebrate, we went out for tacos and margaritas. A simple affair but one we'll never forget!
