This is one of Zach's favorite breweries in Denver. Sarah proved her devotion to Zach by standing in line for three hours in 30 degree weather after only dating a couple of months so that Zach could get an extra two bottles of Vanilla Here be Monsters (a specialty stout). Given that Sarah hates the cold, is supremely inpatient, and missed her book club to wait in line, this was a pretty good indicator that she was serious about him. Try Rare Trait or any of the stouts on tap. If you get hungry, wander across the street to Q House, a fantastic Chinese restaurant with killer chicken wings.
Red Rocks is one of premier concert venues in the world having hosted the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Grateful Dead, Mumford and Sons, and more. Zach first visited Denver to see a Daft Punk show there in 2007. Sarah was lucky enough to have her high school graduation there as well as enjoying concerts by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Avicii, and Macklemore. The surrounding area is full of fun trails for hiking and biking, but the stairs alone provide a pretty good workout.
Union Station has fantastic mix of restaurants, bars, and shops to visit while you wait for the lightrail to the airport or hop on a train up to the mountains. Standouts include Snooze (breakfast/brunch spot with amazing pancakes), Cooper Lounge ( a speakeasy on the top floor over looking the terminal), and Stoic and Genuine (one of the best places for fresh seafood in Denver). Sarah accidentally thought their second date was at Union Station when it was across the street at the Oxford Club (a great bar with 1920s flair). It was the first and last time that she was late to see Zach.
Rocky Mountain National Park is a great place to spend a day or two if you are planning a longer trip to Colorado. This gem has two great towns on either side of it - Estes Park (home of the infamous Stanley Hotel) and Grand Lake. Zach and Sarah spend quite a bit of time up in Grand Lake each year and especially enjoy the many ice cream stands and pontoon boats.
One of the things Zach and Sarah bonded over early in their relationship was their love of art. Both enjoyed AP Art History in High School. A memorable early date is when they went to the museum and were able to tour the rarely open rooftop. The DAM has one of the best western art collections in the world and fantastic visiting exhibitions. Recent standouts include Monet and Dior.
The Source was one of the first places to help revitalize one of the coolest neighborhoods in Denver -- River North or RiNo. Full of shops, breweries, bars, restaurants, and a hotel, it is easy to spend a full day here. Zach recommends Smok (BBQ) while Sarah is partial to Safta (modern Israeli cuisine). Liza, Zach's sister, knew about Safta and took Sarah and Zach there on her first visit out to Denver. Nearby attractions include many of Denver's famous microbreweries including Great Divide, Blue Moon, and Epic.
Zach and Sarah both have a massive sweet tooth and have learned not keep sugar in the house. When they want something decadent, D Bar is first on the list of places to go. Zach has made it a tradition to take Sarah to D Bar every February for their anniversary. Before loading up on the sweets, you may want to grab some of their savory staples such as the crue fries or crispy brussel sprouts.
Sarah and Zach's favorite trip together was to Japan in 2019 where they made a point of trying as many types of ramen as possible. Uncle is the closest they have found in Denver to what they ate in Tokyo. Luckily, it is just down the street from their house in the LoHi neighborhood. After dinner, you may want to walk down the block to Little Man Ice Cream. It's hard to miss - the store is in a giant silver milk jug.
