How We Met

MATCH made in Heaven

After knowing us for any amount of time, you would be able to tell that we share the same preferred lifestyle... being homebodies. For that very reason, when we both hit a period in our life where we weren't "out" hardly at all (Sarah just graduated from University and Zach was working a full-time job at Soren Transport), we had to find a different approach to the whole "dating" thing. That's when we both decided online was the next best thing, so we created profiles on Match.com. Soon enough, we found each other and began messaging. A few months, three awkward-ish dates, and a lot of messaging later, we took the plunge and decided to date.

The Proposal

Cruisin' to Forever

The company where Zach works had done so well that they gifted everyone a five-night cruise to the Yucatan Peninsula and Cozumel, Mexico. At the time of the cruise, we had been together for a year and a half and Zach was being somewhat suspicious, saying things like "Oh, it'd be fun if you got your hair and nails done for the cruise!". So I suspected he might propose on the cruise, but I wasn't quite sure exactly WHEN he would. Day after day we had fun at the various activities they had on-board, explored a Mayan ruin and swam in an absolutely, breathtakingly, beautiful cenote in the Yucatan, ate wonderful food at the different "restaurants" and buffets on and off-board, and went swimming with dolphins in Cozumel... but no proposal. Then it was the last full day of the cruise. We go to the third and final "restaurant" on-board the ship, a nice steakhouse, where we're seated right next to a window. We make it all the way through the meal (and dessert, duh) and then we just stared out at the ocean, watching the waves lap against the ship. Zach asked me what moment I think I will enjoy the most later on (we planned on going to two activities after dinner) and I tell him which activity I think I'll enjoy the most. Then he said, "I think my favorite will be this moment right now," and got down on one knee and proposed. I cried a little and of course said yes! Almost immediately afterwards, we heard from the table next to us, "OMG, did you just propose!" from a woman who proceeded to excitedly ask us if she could do something like take pictures. Not wanting to make a fuss about it, Zach handed her his phone and acted out the whole proposal all over again so the lady could take pictures! I learned later that Zach had actually planned to propose on the beach, but I think that the hilarity of us having to re-do the proposal made it much more memorable!
