Once upon a time (in 2015), in a kingdom far, far away, a beautiful woman from Seoul and a handsome man from Rogers first met. Their first recollection of meeting was a conversation they had in a friend’s living room. Sarah and Ted sat on the sofa together, talking about language learning, about their families, and about where they grew up. Sarah thought Ted was very thoughtful and cared for others well, while Ted walked away with respect for her and found her very warm and pleasant. They both enjoyed connecting over their Christian faith and how that created many things in common. After that conversation, they occasionally saw one another when their two friend groups would get together, sometimes sitting next to each other at a meal or talking further while at a friend’s house. In 2016, it was time to say goodbye. Sarah and Ted parted as friends, never expecting to see one another. Sarah moved back to Virginia, then went back to school, and retrained to become an accountant. Ted eventually moved to Texas, then went back to school, and retrained to become a policy analyst. In 2022, Sarah was embracing a meaningful season of ministry, friendships, church community, and career, while Ted packed up his bags and moved to Northern Virginia. It was supposed to be a temporary stay, but Ted really enjoyed the NOVA life: he had an amazing church community, a meaningful job, and was making a lot of friends. Instead of leaving, he decided to plant roots. As part of that decision, several of his friends urged him to get more serious about dating. On a Monday morning in August 2023, Sarah came across a profile for a man named “Ted” on Hinge. He looked just like the man she had once met, but after a little more studying, Sarah knew it was the Ted she had last seen seven years ago. She was so curious as to why he was in Northern Virginia and wondered what he had been doing all these years. Sarah sent him a “heart” and then started her workday, waiting for his response. As Ted walked out of the elevator and down the hallway to his desk, he felt his phone buzz: a Hinge notification. Unlocking his phone, he sat down to sip his coffee and look through his dating profile. “Sarah” had liked his profile. He looked through her profile and then had an epiphany: this was likely Sarah from all those years ago. Ted messaged Sarah during lunch hour, using their second language. The Sarah he was thinking of would be able to respond with the correct phrase. She did. That same day, they scheduled their first date for the upcoming Sunday, meeting for coffee and tea. When Sarah walked through the door, Ted thought she was so beautiful in her linen terracotta midi dress. Sarah thought Ted looked quite handsome in his linen tobacco shirt and black skinny jeans. They talked for hours and scheduled another date before parting. Six more dates would pass, and then Sarah and Ted decided to make their relationship official on November 11, 2023. They got engaged on January 4, 2025. Over the last eighteen months, Sarah and Ted have fallen so deeply in love. They are so grateful that God brought them together and orchestrated such a beautiful reunion. Both of them are eager to celebrate their wedding but have greater anticipation of their life together, awaiting all that God has for them. Sarah and Ted have full confidence that the Lord will sustain their marriage, use it for their sanctification, give them ample moments of laughter and celebration, allow them to minister to each other when days are hard, make them great ministry partners, stir lasting curiosity about one another, help them quickly apologize and forgive, and grow a deep and lifelong friendship. To God be the glory! We are so thankful for our family and friends. You mean so much, and we look forward to having you with us on our special day, the starting line of our marriage.
