Shiloh cannot keep a secret, so I knew he had the ring, but he somehow restrained himself from telling me the details of the proposal. I was anxiously expecting it to happen every time we were together. The day before the proposal actually happened, we were hanging out in Colonial Williamsburg and he had decided to dress extra nice, go to all our favorite spots and comment on what an absolutely beautiful day it was. So I was jumpy, but it didn't happen just then. Sunday we weren't planning on seeing each other at all, as we both had plans with our families. For mine, my sister-in-law Brianna had said she wanted to do an end of summer picnic before my brother Peter went back to classes. Me, thinking it was nothing more than a family picnic, dressed extremely casually in leggings and a tank top! When we got to the park I thought it was odd my Mom was carrying no food. Then, instead of heading towards the picnic benches at Freedom Park, we started towards the botanical garden. I still don't suspect anything yet, as Brianna, who is a professional photographer, was probably just there before us getting shots of all the blooming flowers and greenery. My Dad opens the gate, and stops everyone else going in and pushes me forward saying "lady's first." My Mom starts wandering around and saying in a very exaggerated voice "Where are they?" And I'm thinking, Why didn't they meet us at the front? Then it hits me-this situation is very weird. Is it-is it happening...now? At that exact moment that I started to realize, we came to the middle of the botanical garden, which had an ivy covered arch on the other end. And I see him walk out to the middle of it. I'm beaming and just want to get to the other end of the courtyard where he is. Brianna pops out of one of the bushes and is snapping photos of the whole thing. I go up to him with the biggest smile on my face, and he gets down on one knee. Both of us in retrospect remember that he gave a speech involving how the past months with me have made him so happy, but both of us were so excited that neither of us remember the exact words! Then he pulls out a little wooden box (I love everything wooden) and opens it to a beautiful emerald and sapphire ring that glittered in the bright August sunlight. His voice cracked adorably as he asked "Sarah, will you marry me?" I thought it was so obvious what my answer was, that I nearly forgot to say it out loud! Yes! Of course yes. We kissed and he slipped the ring on my finger, and told me that we were actually having a picnic, and his family was on it's way too. My Mom said "welcome to the family," which happened to be the exact same words his father said when he got there. The whole day couldn't have been more perfect. I still don't know how I didn't suspect something earlier that day, to be honest. But only someone who is so loving and thoughtful and knows me so well could have chosen such a perfect proposal. With our families there, in a beautiful spot that both of us loved, and with the perfect ring. But most importantly, with the man God has chosen for me.
