Nick and Sarah met at Annex, a CU college ministry, in the fall of 2021 – his junior year and her freshman year. In the next couple of months, they got to know each other through brief conversations at the Annex. Nick asked Sarah to lunch at Pasta Jay's, which turned into a full day of hiking, ice skating, and talking. Three weeks later, Nick bought Sarah the first flowers of many, and they became official on October 24th, 2021. They enjoyed each other’s company right from day one. Over time, their sense of humor began to gel, and they started to discover things they enjoyed doing together. Sarah introduced Nick to thrifting, and they found their church, which they still attend together. They became an important part of each other’s lives and got to know each other’s friends and family. No matter what they were doing, it was the quality time with each other that they enjoyed the most. Some things took a while to get used to, though – Nick ate at a comically slow speed around Sarah for the first year and a half. Six months in, Nick and Sarah traveled together for the first time for Nick’s powerlifting competition. The trip was a great success – they had so much fun together, from Sarah supporting Nick in competition (she ordered him Noodles mac & cheese twice in one day) to playing “would you rather” on the plane. They somehow only took one picture the whole trip, and it wasn’t even together. They’re still working on remembering to take pictures. Since then, they’ve gone on many more trips together, including to Arches and Zion National Parks in Utah, Oceanside, California for Annex spring break, Arkansas to visit family and mine for diamonds, Yellowstone National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park for stargazing and camping with friends, and Cancun with Nick’s work. Just in Colorado, they’ve frequently visited Nick’s family cabin in Durango, Sarah’s family in Colorado Springs, and friends in Grand Junction. Their relationship has grown and evolved over many of life’s milestones. Nick graduated from college in 2023, and Sarah supported him as he went through the long process of obtaining a security clearance and starting his job. Sarah graduated in 2024 and applied to PA school in 2025, with Nick helping her find a good balance between academics and other meaningful aspects of life. Some of Nick’s favorite things about Sarah are her authenticity and desire to be on the same team in their relationship. Nick appreciates that Sarah treats everyone as an equal and always provides a listening ear. He deeply respects her goals to help people through a career in medicine and cherishes her fun spirit, faith, and love for children. Sarah remembers telling people about Nick’s kindness when they first met, and she still stands by that – his kindness is abundant and touches everyone he interacts with, setting people at ease and helping them feel like they belong. She appreciates his leadership in their relationship, his wisdom, and his patience. Nick and Sarah have taught each other a lot throughout their relationship. They are both very curious and love to learn new things, and they share the information they learn with each other, whether it’s Nick sharing niche animal facts or Sarah explaining interesting biological concepts she learned in school. On June 7th, 2025, Nick drove Sarah up to Estes Park, Colorado, so they could spend the weekend in the mountains with her parents. When he took a wrong turn on the way to the hotel, Sarah was confused and tried to help with directions. To her surprise, instead of turning around, Nick parked, walked her into a field with a gorgeous mountain backdrop, and got on one knee. With family and friends watching from a distance, Sarah said yes. It was a fun and meaningful weekend filled with quality time with people they love. Nick and Sarah are looking forward to celebrating their marriage with friends and family, and will be moving near Centennial after the wedding.
