Nathan and Sarah planned a vacation to the western states for months. Sarah thoroughly enjoys national parks and camping, and she eventually convinced Nate to try tent-camping. They decided to make an itinerary which included stops at Needle Highway, Badlands, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. They entered the always lovely Grand Tetons National Park on 7/27/2024- Sarah’s birthday. Nate is terrible at keeping secrets, so he dropped several hints along the way (despite Sarah telling him not to spoil it). However, the secret that Nate did manage to keep was that he intended to pop the question at a particular lake overlook. However to his dismay, they were unable to see any mountain views at that overlook or the park in general that morning because of intense smoke coverage from regional wildfires. He managed to keep Sarah occupied by taking her to the campground to set up camp. They were beginning to prepare lunch when a large cell of rain came through, soaking both the campground and all of the newly purchased firewood. On the bright side, the rain tamed the smoke-filled air and allowed the mountains to once again be seen in most of their glory. Once the rain cleared, they went to Hermitage Point Trailhead, where Nate asked the question that is more cherished than any mountain-scape.
