Travel Note
Northern Michigan is very wooded and full of deer, so if possible, do your best to avoid driving at night. Deer love to hang out in the road and Sarah hit one this year and almost totaled her car! If you are deciding between flights and will have to drive from Saginaw/Traverse/Detroit, try to pick an earlier one to get into Alpena before dark. If you are traveling while dark, drive 10mph under the speed limit, use your brights, and be very careful :) if you are driving a rental car, be sure to spend extra on the insurance, it is worth it! Our neighborhood specifically is full of deer but with our dirt roads, you should be driving a bit slower anyways!
Travel Note
Northern Michigan has many areas with little to no cell service, be sure to have your directions prepared ahead of time and emergency supplies if needed!
Travel Note
There is no Uber or Lyft or Alpena and public transportation is limited, so please plan accordingly with rental cars.
Flight
The Alpena airport is convenient and our local rental car company, AVIS, can arrange to meet you on site. All flights to and from Alpena have a stop in Detroit and it's usually the pricier travel option.
Flight
CCA in Traverse City is a favorite for Alpena locals to fly in to. It's about a 2.5 hour drive to Alpena, is usually cheaper than Alpena Regional Airport, and offers more flights.
Flight
MBS Airport in Saginaw is our closest airport and is about 2.5 hours from Alpena.
Flight
Detroit's airport usually is the most cost effective airport near us and is about a 4 hour drive from Alpena.
