How It Started

With the remarkable amount of distantly shared contacts, and experiences that Sarah and Jake have, they have always joked that it is a miracle that their paths did not cross earlier in their lives. But the universe knew what it was doing, as when they finally did meet, it was the perfect time for both of them. Their first conversation was about what they would do if they won a million dollars. With their shared love of the environment they each decided that they would split the money between conservation and sustainability. From then on, that shared love has created many adventures for them. One of Sarah's favorite dates was very early in their relationship where they spent the weekend planting trees and cleaning up liter together. And of course, everywhere they go, they are shadowed by their dogs, Abe and Link who enjoy all of those outdoor adventures just as much too.

The Proposal

The first time that Jake said "I love you", Sarah was brushing her teeth. He did this as to catch her off guard and so that she couldn't reply right away. But she tried, and a happy "I wub you too" came out. Looking back, this is a great foreshadowing as to how the proposal would happen. Sarah was getting ready for bed after dinner and Jake was reading his book. All of the sudden their dogs started barking like crazy. Sarah, knowing that Jake can never calm them down, was trying to hurry in the other room so that she could go deal with the dogs. What she didn't know was that Jake had stopped reading and was trying to get the record player to play one of Sarah's favorite records. But with him kneeling on the floor, their dogs thought that he was trying to play! When Sarah came around the corner, Jake was still on his knee, the record wasn't playing, the dogs were still barking, and Sarah didn't have her glasses on. She could hardly see what Jake was holding and was confused why he was kneeling on the ground as she was really just focusing on why the dogs wouldn't stop barking. But then she stepped closer, and saw that Jake was actually proposing. Her excitement did not calm the dogs down, but as she exclaimed "YES", it did calm Jake's nerves. If you ask him, none of it went as planned, but if you ask Sarah, it was perfect. It matched their first "I love you's", it was at home where their lives have grown together the most, there was a fire going in the fireplace behind Jake the whole time, and of course the dogs being their crazy selves.
