For First timers especially see below: -Consult your doctor before traveling to high altitudes, especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions; heart/lung problems, asthma etc. -Hydration: Drink ample water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty. -Limit exertion: Avoid strenuous activity for the first few days at high altitude. To prepare arrive one day early before any planned activities. This will allow your body to adjust. -Alcohol and caffeine: Minimize alcohol consumption and be mindful of caffeine intake, as they can worsen altitude sickness symptoms. Do not drink any alcohol within the first 24hrs of arrival. When you do drink cut your usual tolerance in half. -Monitor symptoms: Watch for signs of altitude sickness like headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. To help with symptoms try motion sickness medicine (Dramamine). -Medication: Consider consulting your doctor about taking medication like acetazolamide (Diamox) to aid acclimatization, especially if a rapid ascent is unavoidable.
