Founded April 21, 1782, the Santa Barbara Royal Presidio was the last of Royal Presidio (Spanish military outposts) built in Alta California. Located in downtown Santa Barbara, El Presidio de Santa Bárbara SHP encompasses much of the original Presidio site. Featuring a museum and active archaeology program, the park contains the oldest building in the city and serves as a living history site offering a wide range of programs on the multi-cultural heritage of the surrounding Presidio neighborhood.
