How We Met

Snowstorm Bumble Date - Jan 6, 2022

We met on Bumble not long after Evan moved to Nashville from Hawaii and Sarah from Atlanta. A big snowstorm came through and shut down the city. We figured we both had AWD cars, so we made plans to meet at the only open bar in town - a ski themed bar called Embers. When we got there it was SO crowded, so we opted to go for a walk and play in the snow before grabbing a drink. We ended up in a little park down the street where Evan made a snow angel and we rode down a giant hill on a sled we borrowed from some strangers. Eventually we walked back to the bar, but it was still crowded! We grabbed a drink anyway and sat at the only table available. Outside. On the Patio. It was 11 degrees. After that night we hung out the next 4 days in a row and haven't looked back.

The Proposal

May 4, 2024

Ok this story needs a little background first, so let's set the stage. Sarah's second set of parents, Jennifer and Michael Hagerty, own and operate the paradise that is Country Gardens Greenhouse in Vanleer, TN, and if you know Sarah you know she believes plants are life. Well, Jennifer and Michael's daughter happens to be Sarah's bff and she also runs all of CGG's marketing. Now that you have the background and plan on visiting CGG stat, let's get back to the story. On May 4th, Sarah met Deb out in Dickson, TN, a neighboring town near Vanleer, to help run a booth for CGG at a Star Wars themed May the 4th (be with you) festival while Michael and Jennifer continued to hold down the fort at the Greenhouse. That morning Evan mentioned he might come out and help Michael at CGG then meet Sarah and Deb at the festival later. So, while Deb and Sarah are making new hippie friends, selling plants, getting henna tattoos, and buying adorable hand made jewelry at a festival, Evan was secretly setting up candles and twinkle lights back at the greenhouse. That night when the festival ended, Michael and Evan met Deb and Sarah with the truck and trailer in Dickson to load up the booth and bring everything back to the greenhouse. When they arrived back and finished unloading (in the dark), Evan asked Sarah to "help him with something" and proceeded to lead her to the area in front of the greenhouses and under a pergola. Surrounded by the gardens and candlelight, Evan said a whole lot of beautiful sweet things that we'll let remain just for them. After his speech, as he got down on one knee, Evan yelled "HIT IT" and just like in Princess Diaries, hidden twinkle lights weaved through the pergola lit up. Obviously, Sarah had no choice but to say yes. To celebrate, Sarah, Evan, Michael, and Deb toasted with a bottle of champagne and followed it up with a lovely late night meal and margaritas at the local mexican restaurant.
